Inphenix’s founding team started in 2003 driven by a passion to develop integrated optics. The founding team had worked for companies as varied as Corning, Lasertron, Nortel and Lucent.

Today, Inphenix designs and manufactures lasers and light sources that are critical in state of the art applications in the medical, telecom, sensing and measurement industries.

These lasers and light sources allow doctors to see images with much higher resolution and greater depth, telecom systems to transmit data and information faster and farther and engineers to measure distances, stress and strain with greater precision and accuracy.

Inphenix does all this at its 100,000 square foot facility in beautiful Livermore, California (just 30 miles east of San Francisco). The ISO9001:2008 facility includes a 15,000 square foot Class 10 Fab and a 20,000 square foot packaging area.

Having complete vertical control over the entire design and manufacturing process allows Inphenix to drive innovation, maintain high quality and minimize costs.

Equipment Engineer/ Sr. Equipment Technician

  • Description :
    • Under minimal supervision, maintain and troubleshoot wafer fab equipment for optimal performance.
  • Requirement :
    • Able to troubleshoot, modify and repair front & backend semiconductor manufacturing tools in fab and packaging areas.
    • Ensure all preventative maintenance is completed on schedule, either in-house or by a vendor and must maintain equipment history files on all equipment and tools.
    • Generate equipment maintenance procedures.
    • Troubleshoot and repair vacuum systems.
    • Must give feedback on-going equipment issues to engineers.
    • Able to perform hazardous gas bottle changes following proper safety procedures.
    • Able to work in a cleanroom environment and follow appropriate protocol/requirements.
    • Set-up and maintain spare parts inventory.
    • Lead tool modification/installation projects.
    • Additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Qualifications :
    • B.S. degree in Engineering, Semiconductor Manufacturing, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience or the equivalent in education and experience.
    • Solid knowledge of high vacuum pumping systems including: cryo, diffusion, turbo and roughing pumps.
    • Must be able to read blueprints and schematic drawings, along with the ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and instructions.
    • Must have previous knowledge and experience in the following: leak detection using He leak detector or RGA; electro-mechanical, pneumatic and PLC controls; RF systems; and hazardous gas and chemical handling.
    • Good basic computer skills.
    • Hands-on team player committed to working in a quality environment.

VCSEL Design Engineer

  • Description :
    • Inphenix is a world-leading manufacturer for Superluminescent Diodes (SLDs), Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs), broadband light sources and lasers which cover wavelength range from 700nm to 1700nm. Inphenix offers products from chip-level to module and subsystem-level.
    • Inphenix is a vertically integrated supplier with a 10,000 square foot Class 10 clean room for MOCVD epitaxial growth, wafer fabrication and chip processing and a 20,000 square foot packaging area for hermetically sealed packaging and testing. Inphenix’s full front-end to back-end capability insures fast delivery and expedited customized design needs. Our markets are biomedical, telecom, sensor, industrial and test & measurement.
    • Conveniently located off HWY 580 in Livermore, we are seeking a motivated engineer to contribute to the development of innovative high power and/or high speed VCSEL products.
  • Requirement :
    • Device and Epitaxial design to meet VCSEL performance requirements.
    • VCSEL process development and control – lithography, wet etching, plasma etching, metal & dielectric deposition systems, implantation and oxidation.
    • Manage design projects to establish specifications of VCSEL products.
    • Support VCSEL manufacturing with data analysis to troubleshoot problems and ensure manufacturability.
    • Additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Qualifications :
    • Master’s or Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering or Material Science or equivalent in education and experience.
    • Minimum 3-5 years VCSEL design experience.
    • Familiarity with wafer fabrication metrology and failure analysis techniques.
    • Demonstrated experience with laser simulation software.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational skills and interpersonal team building skills.

MOCVD Engineer

  • Description :

    • Develop MOCVD recipe based on structures design.
    • Lead MOCVD material growth including wafer test and analysis.
    • Troubleshoot MOCVD material growth issues.
    • MOVCD tool and metrology tool maintenance working with equipment engineer.
    • Track process results for the grown wafer and related evaluations.
    • Documentation of quality control and yield analysis for MOCVD growth.
    • Additional duties and projects as assigned.
  • Qualifications :
    • MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Material Sciences or equivalent in education and experience.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in MOCVD knowledge and growth.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in an industrial clean room environment.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Optical Engineer

  • Description :
    • Design, simulation, and characterization of optical MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) devices for wavelength tunable laser products. Investigative concept studies and prototype design of wavelength tunable laser products. Perform MEMS device level analysis (e.g. reflectivity, cavity length, voltage vs. displacement, resonance frequency, etc.) to optimize system level optical performance (e.g. tuning range, tuning speed, linewidth, etc.). Outline performance characterization techniques and perform optical and mechanical performance characterization. Analyze design and experimental data for product readiness for system level integration and future design modification. Conduct design reviews and provide recommendations to meet the system requirements. Collaborate with process, electronics, and packaging engineers on design implementation. Work closely with product operations to transition development to volume manufacturing and write ISO documents to transfer design to production line.
  • Requirement :
    • Master’s degree in Optical Science/Mechanical Engineering/Related, plus the following skills: Optical system design and development, Biomedical Optics, Microsystem (MEMS) design and development,ZEMAX, COMSOL
  • Work Schedule :
    • Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. 40 hours per week.

Device Design Engineer

  • Description :
    The Device Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and validation of optoelectronic products at Inphenix.
  • Responsibilities :
    • Design, simulation and analysis of III-V semiconductor lasers, semiconductor optical amplifiers, superluminescent diodes.
    • Work with team of process development and engineering to define fabrication process, mask layout, process flow, and test requirements.
    • Perform evaluation of devices to confirm that products meet design objectives and customer requirements.
  • Requirements :
    • 3 to 5 years experience in the optoelectronics field with a proven track record in III-V material design from development to manufacture.
    • Demonstrated understanding of multi-quantum-well layer design, optical waveguide design, device performance simulation, and semiconductor fabrication processes.
    • Especially preferred the experience of GaAs lasers grown by MOCVD.
    • Team player with good communication skills and strong technical writing ability.
    • PhD or MS in Physics or Semiconductor Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Other Desired Skills and Abilities :
    • Experience with commercial design and simulation software packages.
    • Strong device characterization ability with CW and high-speed measurements skills.
    • Strong data analysis ability including database management and presentation skills.
    • Familiarity with reliability testing, and qualification standards.
    • Understanding of manufacturing flow and control, ISO9000, and new product development protocols.

Sales/Application Engineer

  • Description :
    Inphenix has an immediate opening for an Optical Sales Application Engineer with a unique combination of technical competence and professional sales skills.
  • Responsibilities :
    • The position, located and based in our Livermore, CA offices, will promote, sell and support optical amplifiers and light sources to medical, military, telecom and sensor customers. The ideal candidate should have experience providing multi-level customer support including optical applications engineering, quotations, product presentations and on-site visits. Up to 30% travel required.
  • Requirements :
    • Minimum 5 years of high level sales and technical/engineering in optical components (lasers, light sources, active components) industry. Proven ability to cultivate and develop new markets. Must have strong consultative customer sales and technical support skills. Must be proactive and possess strong account management, presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Qualifications :
    • Technical degrees, BS or higher in Optics, Physics with current knowledge of photonics, optics and optical devices.
