半导体光放大器

半导体光放大器(SOA)本质上是一个激光二极管(LD),其输入和输出端口没有反馈,因此也被称为行波放大器(TWA)。 半导体光放大器(SOA)已被证明是多用途和多功能设备,是光网络的关键构件。

有五个参数用于表征半导体光放大器(SOA):(1)增益(Gs); (2)增益带宽; (3)饱和输出功率(PSAT); (4)噪声系数(NF) (5)偏振相关增益(PDG)。

半导体光放大器(SOA)应具有适用应用的较高增益。还需要宽的光学带宽,使得半导体光放大器(SOA)可以放大宽范围的信号波长。增益饱和效应会使输出出现令人沮丧的失真,因此理想的SOA应具有较高的饱和输出功率,以获得良好的线性度,以获得较小失真并最大化其动态范围。理想的半导体光放大器(SOA)也应具有较低的噪声系数(物理限制为3dB),以最大限度地减少输出端的放大自发辐射(ASE)功率。最后,理想的半导体光放大器(SOA)应具有非常低的偏振灵敏度,以最小化横向电(TE)和横向磁(TM)极化状态之间的增益差。然而,由于其内部发生的各种过程的物理限制,制作理想的半导体光放大器(SOA)仍存在限制和挑战。
